Using the Kings Norton Library
Using the Barrington Library
Academic Support Workers
Two accessible parking spaces are located at the front of the Kings Norton Library.
If you find it difficult to use the main revolving door, you can use the door to the right of the main entrance. Use the intercom on the left hand side of the door to ask a member of staff to open it for you.
The Library has three floors. There is one lift which is primarily for the use of staff (for security reasons) and customers with mobility requirements. If you need to use the lift to move between floors, please speak to a member of staff, either in person or by using the ‘Call for assistance’ button to the right of the lift doors on the ground floor.
If the fire alarm sounds, leave the building as quickly as possible via the nearest fire exit. Please be aware that you will not be able to use the lift. If you are a wheelchair user or have mobility requirements and are on the first floor when the alarm sounds, please go to the refuge area in the stairwell at the back of the Library building and wait for assistance. Use the emergency call point or direct link phone in these areas to tell emergency services that you are there.
If you want to use any items of stock from the top floor of the building, but would be unable to use the stairs in the event of an emergency, or if your disability means that you are unable to access items stored in rolling shelving on the ground floor, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to fetch them for you.
We can give you access to stock on the ground floor from the main foyer using a swipe card system, if it is easier for you than using the stairs.
The accessible toilet is at the rear of the Library atrium, on the left hand side.
Other facilities:

If the fire alarm sounds, leave the building as quickly as possible via the nearest fire exit. Please be aware that you will not be able to use the lift. If you are a wheelchair user or have mobility requirements and are on the first floor when the alarm sounds, please go to one of the refuge areas in either stairwell, and wait for assistance. Use the emergency call point in these areas to tell emergency services that you are there. An Evac-Chair is available at each refuge area.
If your disability means that you are unable to access items stored in the shelving, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to fetch them for you.
The public computers in the library provide screen magnification software, an on-screen keyboard, sticky keys, Mindjet Manager mind-mapping software, an adaptable mouse and keyboard settings.
If you have an Academic Support Worker we can arrange access to the libraries for them. Please contact one of the Library Accessibility Officers to arrange it. A separate account will be set up for your support worker to enable them to borrow, return and reserve books on your behalf. In order to comply with data protection regulations they will not have access to your own account.
