Getting to know your Library: The Librarians' Office

Each course and research area has a dedicated Librarian and they share an office here on the ground floor. They are here to help you find the information you need so you can make an appointment with them for 1-2-1 advice, either in person or online, whenever you need it. Please don’t be afraid to knock on the door and ask!

You will first meet your Librarian at your library induction session, as part of the introduction to your studies. They work closely with the academic teams to understand the requirements of your course and ensure the library has the resources you need. At your induction they will show you how to use the databases most relevant to you and explain the services we offer to support you.

If you are a research student, your Librarian can advise you on how to conduct and publish your research, how to manage your research data, how to measure your impact, and keeping up to date.

We also offer a range of study skills support. Our Study Skills Hub (on Canvas) provides tips and techniques for a wide range of key skills, and we also have tutors to help you with your oral and written communication, including giving presentations and writing your thesis. We also offer support for referencing and avoiding plagiarism.

We also offer webinars and in person workshops throughout the year so you can brush up on your skills when you need to.  You can see upcoming events on the library website.

As you visit each information point in order, you will unlock a password. This one unlocks the letter E. Once you have completed the tour, go to the Welcome Desk and give the password to a member of staff for a sweet treat!

The next stop on the tour is on Floor 1 - the main Welcome Desk.
