Academic language support

We offer a range of support for students who would like to improve their written and spoken academic language. The overall aim is to develop the language skills required for postgraduate study in the UK so it is suitable to both international and home students.

Why is it important?

It can help boost your confidence and improve your ability to communicate verbally and in written form.

What do I need to know?

Support is free and available to all taught and research students. We have a variety of support options:

Individual tutorials: One to one consultation with an academic skills tutor. Book a tutorial to discuss and review your writing, practise a presentation, review a CV, etc. These are available weekly in 45-min slots with a limit of 3 per calendar month. Please note these tutorials cannot provide a full proofreading service and detailed feedback will be limited to approximately 10% of a paper. Make an appointment - select LOCATION (online, Kings Norton Library, SOM Library) > select Academic language tutor.

Training workshops: Small regular group sessions held online and on-campus at Cranfield for you to develop and practise skills interactively. Search 'Academic language' in DATES for the current schedule and to reserve a place.

Library Helpdesk: An open drop-in service, provided in Kings Norton Library and SOM Library at various times during the week.
