Library services over the Christmas period

The Kings Norton Library will be open 24/7 throughout the holiday period as a study space. Library staff will work until 4.30pm on Friday 17 December and will resume their normal working hours from 9am on Tuesday 4 January. In their absence, you are welcome to borrow and return items using the self-service machines. Please remember that you will need your University ID card to access and leave the building via the side door.

The Management Information and Resource Centre (MIRC) will close at 4pm on Friday 17 December and reopen at 10am on Tuesday 4 January.

Please remember that most of our library resources (databases, eJournals and eBooks) are available via our website 24/7, as are our referencing and research support areas and lots more. You may also find it helpful to search our blog as many of our previous posts answer frequently asked questions. LinkedIn Learning can provide support for using applications and programmes such as Excel, Matlab and Python.

24/7 opening of Kings Norton Library resumes from Monday 1 November

We are delighted that we are able to reopen the Library all day, every day from Monday 1 November. 

You will be able to access the building whenever it suits you, and you will be able to issue and return your books using the self-service kiosks.

Library staff will be available to help you from 9am – 5pm Monday to Thursday, and 9am - 4.30pm on Friday. You can also use the online chat facility on our website 5pm - 8pm Monday to Thursday if you need help in the evenings.

To ensure the building remains a safe, comfortable place to study, we ask you to follow our advice for overnight and weekend working and continue to follow our advice before you visit.
 

New hours and services from 6 September 2021

Opening hours

From 6 September, the Kings Norton Library will be open:

  • 9am-8pm, Monday to Friday
  • 1-5pm, Saturday and Sunday

It will be closed 13-15 September for fixed wire testing.

New services

Available from 6 September

  • You will no longer need to pre-book your study seat. We are also removing the study sessions, so you can drop-in whenever you like and stay as long as you need.
  • You will be able to book a group study room for up to eight people at a time. However, you must all wear masks.
  • You will be able to visit the Library to use the printers without booking a study space.
  • We will no longer offer a click and collect service. You will be able to browse, check-out and return books yourself using the self-service kiosks. Please ask a member of staff if you need any help.
  • If you reserve books online via Library Search, we'll email you when they are available for collection. There will be no need to pre-book a slot. Just collect them from the shelves by the Welcome Desk and remember to check them out at the self-issue kiosks. 
  • We will continue to post out loans for all staff and students until October 2021. After that time, we will only offer a postal service to part-time and remote learners.
  • If you need any help or have any questions, we are reopening the Welcome Desk on the first floor. Please come and ask our staff who will be happy to help you.
