Information for visitors

If you do not study or work at Cranfield, you are still welcome to use our library.

All visits are by appointment only so please contact us to arrange your visit and ensure we will be open. We will organise a visitor permit for you, and you will need to call in at our Main Reception when you arrive.

We also recommend you check Library Search on our home page to see what we stock and ensure that your visit will be worthwhile. (Please be aware that our Library Search also contains the details of stock held in our Management Information and Resource Centre, which is not open to visitors. Check the location of any items you’re interested in to make sure they are held at the Kings Norton Library.)

Members of the SCONUL Access scheme are welcome to use the Library.

The first time you visit us, you will need to come to the Welcome Desk on the first floor and show us a copy of the approval email you were sent confirming your membership of the scheme.

We will give you a membership card. You will need to visit the Welcome Desk and show it to us every time you visit and sign in.

All SCONUL Access members are welcome to use our stock for reference purposes. You will also be eligible to use our service to borrow up to three items on a six week loan basis if you are a:

  • Member of university staff or a research student (Band A);
  • Part-time, distance learning or placement student (Band B);
  • Full-time taught postgraduate (Band C).

Unfortunately membership does not entitle you to use our online resources or have general use of the PCs. If, however, your home institution is a member of the Eduroam wireless service, you can access the internet and your own library's online resources via your laptop from our campus. Please ensure you have set up your Eduroam account prior to visiting Cranfield - please discuss this with your home institution if you are unsure.

You are welcome to use the libraries for reference purposes, although you will not be able to log in to our network or IT facilities.‚Äč
If you are working for the University on a contractual basis, are a temporary (agency) staff member or are an external partner, you will need to set up your University account before you can access our lending services and online resources. You will need to complete the IT username request form first, then once you have your University username and password, please visit the library to complete a confidentiality agreement form. Visiting academics should have their account authorised by HR and will therefore receive library access automatically.
