COVID-19 service update

July 2021

Online support - now with extended hours

As always, the majority of our resources and support are available via the Library website 24/7

MIRC staff are available online to help you every weekday:

  • Monday-Thursday: 9am-8pm*
  • Friday: 9am-5pm.

*The extension of online support from 5pm to 8pm begins on 19 July.

You are welcome to contact us by email and if you need more in-depth advice, please email your Information Specialist and they will arrange a video call with you.

Visiting MIRC and the Bloomberg Suite

Please book your seat in advance and make a note of the seat number you have chosen. You will need to check in when you arrive using the link in your confirmation email. Seating has been reduced to allow for social distancing; 10 spaces are available in MIRC and 3 in the Bloomberg Suite.

Due to the current University requirement for all study space to be supervised, linked with staff availability, our opening hours are:

  • Monday, 9am-12pm
  • Tuesday, 2-5pm
  • Wednesday, 9am-12pm
  • Thursday, 2-5pm
  • Friday, 2-5pm

Please read our advice before you visit.

You will notice that all the books have been removed. You can still borrow and return them via the Click and Collect Service offered by the Kings Norton Library.

We are sorry that we will be unable to offer any face-to-face support initially. Please email us during our online support hours (see above) and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

If you are living away from campus

If you are living away from campus you can reserve and request postal delivery of books and print items. The usual eligibility criteria for using our postal services have been relaxed, so if you are living away from the campus at the moment, please let us know when you reserve your item and we will post it to any UK, RoI or BFPO address. (We are sorry we are unable to post overseas.)

If you only need to read a single article, book chapter, or conference paper from our stock (and it isn't available online), we can scan and email it to you wherever you are in the world. We also recommend searching our collections for an eBook or other online alternatives.

If you wish to return books and are living away from the site, please contact to arrange a postal return from a UK Collect+ location (at no cost to yourself). If you are living on or near site, you can return them to the ground floor of the Library without an appointment.

Interlibrary loans and other requests

If you need an item that isn’t part of our online collection we are now able to accept requests for print interlibrary loans again. Please be patient as they may take longer to arrive due to staffing reductions at other libraries and quarantine measures.
