Introducing evening study sessions

From Monday 17 May, the Kings Norton Library will offer a pre-bookable evening study session every weekday, 5-8pm, in the PC Hub on the ground floor. Additionally, five more seats will be made available in this area, and three more will be added to the first and second floors, creating a total seating capacity of 48 spaces in the building.

This new session will be in addition to the existing 9am-12pm and 1-4pm bookable slots. We have been very aware of student demand for study spaces on campus, particularly during the evenings, and are pleased to be able to help meet this need as we gradually ease Covid restrictions.

We will be updating our booking system on Friday night, 14 May, and you will be able to book the additional seating and evening sessions from that point onwards. Please be aware that the new seats will be interspersed within the previous layout, so some seats will be re-numbered. Please double-check the floor plans if you have a favourite seat, in case it has been re-numbered!

Visiting the library

From Monday 17 May, Kings Norton Library will be open 9am-8pm every weekday offering:

•    Click and Collect: Reserve books from our printed collection then make an appointment to pick them up, 10am-4pm. 
•    Study space: Book a private study space in advance. (Seating capacity has been reduced to meet social distancing guidelines.) . Three hour sessions are available 9am-12pm, 1-4pm and 5-8pm.

Please only visit the library if you have a confirmed booking for one of the services above, or if you are returning print items to us. We are unable to offer any in-person support at the moment. Please read our advice before you visit.

You must wear a face covering in the building at all times unless you have a medical exemption.

Help and support

Library staff are available online to help with your research on weekdays, 9am-5pm. If we can't answer your question quickly by email we will arrange a video call with you to provide more in-depth support. Please contact us by email with your query.

If you are living away from campus

If you are living away from campus you can reserve and request postal delivery of books and print items. The usual eligibility criteria for using our postal services have been relaxed, so please let us know when you reserve your item and we will post it to any UK, RoI or BFPO address. (We are sorry we are unable to post overseas.) 

If you only need to read a single article, book chapter, or conference paper from our stock (and it isn't available online), we can scan and email it to you wherever you are in the world. We also recommend searching our collections for an eBook or other online alternatives. 

If you wish to return books and are living away from the site, please contact library@cranfield.ac.uk to arrange a postal return from a UK Collect+ location (at no cost to yourself). If you are living on or near site, you can return them to the ground floor of the Library without an appointment.

Interlibrary loans and other requests

If you need an item that isn’t part of our online collection we are now able to accept requests for print interlibrary loans again. Please be patient as they may take longer to arrive due to staffing reductions at other libraries and quarantine measures.
